Your path picks the handful of these that fit how you're wired — that's the point of the assessment. But you should still be able to see the whole map. This is everything I used to fill a private-pay practice, build a group practice, grow an audience of 258k, and publish a book, with the honest reason behind each one.
Before you market
This is a private-pay marketing Playbook, not legal, clinical, insurance, or financial guidance.
This Playbook is marketing education for building a private-pay practice. It does not cover insurance paneling or billing, clinical care, session structure, or documentation.
Marketing standards vary by license and state. Before publishing, double-check your licensing board's current rules, your professional code of ethics, and the laws where you practice.
Market therapy only in the states where you are legally permitted to serve clients. Keep your website, directory profiles, service areas, social bios, and local or state keywords accurate to those boundaries.
Protect confidentiality everywhere. Do not use identifiable client stories, confirm who is a client, provide clinical advice in comments or DMs, or paste client names, session details, or protected health information into an AI tool.
Avoid promises, guarantees, and misleading outcome claims. Rules for testimonials and public reviews vary by state and license, so check your board's standards before asking for or displaying them.
Paid advertising is not covered here. The Playbook focuses on organic search, directories, relationships, content, email, speaking, and partnerships.
Two of them — courses and book deals — are marked overview. I'll show you how they work and how mine happened, but this tool isn't a course-building or proposal-writing curriculum. It's about getting you off the ground.
You don't do all of these
Seeing the whole map is useful. Trying to walk all of it at once is how therapists end up exhausted with a half-empty caseload. Take the assessment and I'll narrow it to the few that suit your temperament and your goal, in order.
